Mixed Martial Arts York PA
Welcome to York Shotokan Karate & Mixed Martial Arts.
At York Shotokan Karate & Mixed Martial Arts, we believe in leadership, tradition and dedication. It’s our goal to teach the fundamentals of self-defense, while educating our students in the practices of peace of mind and perfection of character. We offer karate classes for kids, as well as, adult classes centered on more comprehensive self-defense disciplines, including Krav Maga, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Through a dedicated approach to learning and mastering the fundamentals of karate and other self-defense techniques, our students will improve their physical strength and stamina, achieve better overall health and fitness and grow stronger mentally. We believe that martial art training helps individuals to become well rounded, responsible and successful in all aspects of their lives.
We uphold the idea that a black belt is nothing more than a piece of fabric if it’s not complemented by personal growth, inner peace and self-confidence. For our students, the growth is in the journey, not in the reward.

York Shotokan Karate & Mixed Martial Arts was founded in 1961 and is the oldest martial arts school in Pennsylvania. Under the leadership of Sensei Master Tony Abel, our reputation for quality instruction is unparalleled.
Our curriculum has its roots in traditional Shotokan style karate but blends elements of various martial arts styles. By combining the most effective techniques from many disciplines, we are able to teach a realistic, streetwise self-defense system. As a result, our students learn to defend themselves in virtually any situation.
York Shotokan Karate & Mixed Martial Arts is a not-for-profit organization. Our focus is developing well rounded, disciplined and skilled martial artists. Our black belt instructors each have no less than 10 years’ experience in the martial arts; and, collectively the instructional staff has more than 150 years of experience. Our dedicated staff volunteer their time for the love of the art and the benefit of the students.
